Parent Participation Needed

Parent Participation: CKCS Wants Your Input!

Core Knowledge Charter School (CKCS) depends on parent volunteers in many ways. One opportunity for parents to volunteer is by serving on Governing Council Committees. The Governing Council is made up of 8 elected parents and staff members, and its main purpose is to set policies and goals for CKCS. The Governing Council uses Committees to help make decisions and contribute to projects.

We are currently seeking volunteers for the Committees described below. If you're interested in participating, please contact the chairperson listed below:

Community Outreach and Public Relations Committee

The Committee's goal is to provide the community with information about Verona Area Core Knowledge Charter School. This year the Committee will examine recommendations to increase enrollment of students with disabilities and students who qualify for free/reduced meals. The committee will meet twice before the end of 2014 to plan informational sessions to be held in January 2015, and possibly again in early 2015 to plan for outreach over the summer and into the following school year. Contact CKCS Office at (608) 845-4130.

Curriculum Committee

The Committee's goal is to review the K-8 curriculum. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring the curriculum uses technology appropriately, aids students in developing problem-solving skills, and provides teachers with meaningful measurements of student progress. Meetings will be held as needed. Chaired by Chris Uelmen. Contact Chris at

Budget Committee

The budget committee will meet several times throughout the 2014-15 school year to develop an operating budget for the following school year. There will be one meeting in the fall and approximately three meetings between January and May. Chaired by Ndidi Yaucher, Governing Council Treasurer. Contact Ndidi at

Hiring/Personnel Committee

Volunteers participate in the hiring process (interviews, etc.) if openings occur at CKCS. Most openings occur during the summer. A list of volunteers will be established and parents will be contacted as needed. Time commitment is between 4 and 8 hours. The Hiring Committee will also meet 1-2 times to review how well the current hiring process is working and consider whether changes are appropriate. Chaired by Gail Groy, Governing Council Vice President. Contact Gail at
